So, let’s dive in. If you’ve done your research on how to increase traffic to your website, you’ve probably seen everybody talking about “Improve Your Search Engine Optimization ” on your site but what does that really mean?
What is SEO and How Does SEO Work?
SEO is simply put as Search Engine Optimization or just how easy it is for search engines like Google to find your website and show to searchers using specific keywords or search terms. Now there are several different good search engines out there that over 90% of internet users rely on them to find specific things. We have search engines like Bing and Yahoo, Yandex but 83% – 90% of the searches are done on Google page.
So, that’s usually what we mean when talking about search engines and basically, search engines just go out to crawl and scour the web to find pages and index them in their catalog. It’s very similar to when you have a book and at the end of that book, you have an index page where it tells you exactly where everything was mentioned or talked about and the location.
That’s pretty much Google and their indexing system as well on the web in the cloud. So, let’s take a look at an example.
Often times, from a typical Google Search Engine Result Page. You get to see that these ads are first displayed and below the ads we have what’s known as a knowledge graph and its function or what it does is pulling in a result that might be further down on the page but since Google thinks it’s answering the query really well it’ll get shown up here as well as down further on the page.
And stepping down further, you have organic results. Typically, they’re about 10 organic search results on 1 page and organic listings simply mean that these results aren’t paid at all.
They show up on Google because they’ve done a good job of telling Google that this page is about this particular query. Then we have a “People also ask” area and this simply shows searchers the “Related search” that people will do on this topic.
Now, here is the most important part of Google Search Engine Results Page; Most persons don`t know that over 94% of people that make use of Google stay and click only on the first page and if they happen not to find what they are looking or searching for, they will actually don`t bother to click on the next page. That’s the reason why Google added this “People Also Ask” area and here’s the biggest why SEO-Search Engine Optimization is so important for your website.
So, If they don’t find what they’re looking for on the first page, they will simply or just adjust their search term or criteria or start from scratch and for most people who happen to click while on the first page mostly only click in sequence of what is sometimes referred to as the Golden Triangle or Top Three and about 63%-70% of people simply click right within that Golden Triangle that is why optimizing your website structure and contents for search engine or performing the right Search Engine Optimization is very important especially when people search for information that`s relevant to them.
And when they see your website in the search results, they are going to click and visit your webpage. Bear in mind that these are not just visitors, they are people that are looking for exactly what you offer on your page.
So, they are most likely to be converted into potential customers, subscribers and so on. But if your website isn`t showing up within the golden triangle or top three results or it`s not even showing up on the first page, then it`s almost like your website doesn`t even exist and no one can even find you.
When you make a search on Google, the top three organic results, they get over 70% of all the clicks as analyzed below.
- The first position usually gets the bulk of the clicks; Between 35% and 40%.
- The second position will get between 15% and 20%.
- Then the third position will get around 10%.
So, that’s why it’s so important to make sure that your website is first on Google. But, with what factors does Google even determine what site and contents should go on the first page?
The biggest factor is relevancy or uniqueness. You want to make sure that your website is exactly what the searcher is looking for when they’re searching Google.
Now Google uses over 200 factors to determine what’s relevant in their algorithms and there’s no way that we’re going to be able to cover all of those but if we can concentrate on a few then we have a fighting chance to get seen in the search results.
In addition to the relevance, you will also want to make sure your site is unique and useful. What all that means is that, when a user clicks on your site, the information that they’re looking for is easily found. Think about the last time you carried out a search using any of the search engines.
If you went to a page that you thought had the answer but you had a hard time finding it on the page, did you stick around? Most people will turn away or close that page and go look for a different answer.
So, make sure that your site is also useful and that you’ve arranged the answers for the topic in a meaningful way that’s easier for readers to find what they’re looking for.
The Three Types of SEO
